What is the significance of the U value (formerly known as the K VALUE)?
U value = heat transfer coefficient = a measure for the heat transfer through a structural element and is shown as W/(m²K).
Every building material conducts heat or cold - some more, some less.
The lower the U value, the lower the heating costs to be anticipated for the house.
What U value can one expect with a timber house?
This is where timber as a material scores particularly well.
Thus, for example, a 12 cm thick log panel wall has the same U value as a 38 cm thick brick wall or even a 1.5 m thick concrete wall.
Where does the timber you process originate from?
The timber we process comes exclusively from Austrian mountain forests that are sustainably managed. Due to its slow growth, the timber produced there has particularly small annular rings and is thus of a very high quality.
How often does a timber house have to be painted?
All log houses, regardless of manufacturer, should be treated, as is generally the case for all timber houses, with an open porous glaze (not lacquer) at regular intervals. The recommended interval depends greatly on the location and the coat of paint used. It is important to treat the weather and south side exposed to more intense solar irradiation extremely carefully the first time and to reapply the paint as necessary.
What types of wood do you use?
Predominantly spruce, pine, Weymouth pine and also, in small quantities, larch. However, it is basically possible to use any type of wood at the customers request. What has to be borne in mind in this case, however, is a certain lead time due to warehouse capacities.
Are you also able to supply individual log houses according to drawings supplied by the customers architect?
Of course! All projects are drafted individually according to the customers wishes and can be executed precisely according to architects specifications. Our own in-house planning office is also available at all times and will create a unique specimen property in line with your specific wishes and requirements.
Which external wall constructions can Kuchler Blockhaus put into practice?
We differentiate between log panel wall and modular wall constructions.
You will find precise information regarding this on our home page under log house and modular house.
How are the panel boards joined together?
The panel boards are profiled lengthways and have specially machined keyways for the corner joints. As a result they are structurally interlocked with each other. In addition, the panel layers are screwed together vertically using threaded rods and the beams are joined using wooden dowels to prevent horizontal movement.
Is a building consultation or a quote free of charge?
The non-binding building consultation is free of charge.
A non-binding consultation and inspection appointment is one of our requirements for the building quote according to the customers specific architects drawings. Complete master drawings including sections and layout plan are required for a fixed price quote. We cannot process blind enquiries for consultations sent in by post or fax without telephone number.
Do you have show homes or reference homes available for inspection?
One example each of a log house and a modular house may be seen in the show home park at Poing near Munich.
As we can already point to over 1,500 satisfied customers, it is also possible to visit an actual house if arranged in advance.
